Dad’s Navy pics

Filed under: pics — pawnhandler @ 5:35 am

Vera Chichester sent my father a bunch of pics from his (and her deceased husband’s) Navy days aboard the USS Hyman in the early 1950s. Some of these I scanned twice, each time making sure it was in the scanner perfectly straight, but they still scanned at an angle. Cheap machinery!

Hope you enjoyed the tour! Please visit the gift shop on your way out!

These were my high school friends. The pics aren’t clear, but I still saved them all these years and can still pick out many of the people!

If I have more than one copy of these, then you may have already seen some. Everything I’m posting today was scanned today, but another print of the same photo may have been scanned earlier.

A photo day

Filed under: pics — pawnhandler @ 7:50 am

When you get to this post, it’s the last of today’s photo entries (although the first one I’m doing, obviously).

I scanned a ton of pics, and then downloaded the ones from my camera as well. I’ll start with the most recent pics.

We recently went to a Toros game (our third of the season, I think). Ronald McDonald threw out the first pitch. Actually, some of these might be from a different game, so I apologize if I already posted some of these.

I had a couple of pics of RMc himself. If I find them I’ll post them later.

These are pics from one of Donna’s recent visits, taken at (I think) Chinese Buffet.

This one has a story behind it: I was looking all over for the Sweet ‘n Low to put in the clear plastic thing. I looked everywhere! Well, apparently, not quite.

A pool picture — because you can never have too many pool pictures that don’t actually include what you look like in a bathing suit!

old pics and ancient pics

Filed under: family, pics — pawnhandler @ 9:33 pm

I’m scanning photos while they’re still in decent condition, and because various people wanted copies at some point. Some of these are ancient — and yet there are readers here who remember me this way! Enjoy!

Actually, I’m not sure how much “etc.” there is. We’ll see! Donna came down the weekend of the fourth of July. She got here on Friday afternoon, and we went to the folks’ for supper. Saturday we spent a lot of time there as well, swimming and eating. Then we went to Marana to see fireworks. There were supposed to be all these activities and stuff, so we went early. Well, the activities were all spread out and not really where we were exactly. But once the fireworks started, it was great! Then Sunday we went to breakfast with the folks’, went to Bookman’s to look at their used books and turn some in for trade. Then we went home and took a nap!!!!!!! Yes, I was pooped! I’ve gotten to like summer naps!!

Friday (yesterday) morning I took Del to the airport for a trip to Cape Cod. It’s a bit nippy where she is!! Some of the days she’ll be gone, the high is expected to be 62! As I was driving home tonight, the temp was 109. A little difference! While she’s gone, I’m taking care of her cat twice a day, visiting and giving her meds. Then on Sunday (the 19th?) night, I’ll pick her up from the airport. She doesn’t live that far from here — 15-20 minutes, and I don’t have to deal with the dog since he’s at “camp” while they’re gone (Del and Laura).

The state has an approved education budget finally, but it hasn’t been signed yet. The superintendent sent a memo saying that actually around 1000 employees have been affected by this, and they should be done recalling RIFs by the beginning of August. That’s like two weeks before school starts!! Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!
