Well, metaphorically speaking. This is my last day of vacation.
Tomorrow I begin a week of workshops. Could be worse; the kids in the district I live in go back to school on the 7th (as opposed to the 11th). If I taught here, I’d probably already be back. What? Different districts? Yep — this town has approximately 5 school districts — the megadistrict I teach in and a number of adjoining ones. They’re all still the same town.
I talked to the academic counselor at U of Phoenix on the phone Friday for quite a while (she called). Apparently she’ll be calling weekly for my first two courses to answer any questions and help me from being overwhelmed. But she said that if I go straight through, I should have my Master’s a year from now! That’ll help me get through a lot!! I also found out that if I need to, I don’t need to take a whole six-week course off and then resume; I can take a shorter leave of a week between two classes if I need to. That’s nice to know!
I haven’t had the scanner out since I got back from Wisconsin. I want to scan some of the pictures Uncle Bob sent me as well as some of the other pictures I have. That is in my future! I may do it on Monday night after school, since U of Px starts Tuesday. I’m also expecting a phone call Monday at 6 for what’s called a Walk To School. My admissions counselor will walk me through the web site over the phone, so I can see everything on my own computer and navigate through it. I’ve already been through a lot of it, but there are portions that won’t open up until tomorrow night.
Donna is here, and of course we went swimming yesterday. What’s been annoying is that the pool where I live was closed sometime while I was in Wisconsin. Of course it was for good reason — the water was green and thick and you couldn’t see the bottom of the pool! But still — no daily swimming the whole time I’ve been back, and by the time they finally open it again I’ll be back at work. I may have to take after-school swims. I know you all find this immensely heartbreaking!
The cat whisperer: Harry meows all the time. I figured out one day that it’s because I’m constantly talking to him, so he’s constantly talking to me as well. Sometimes I talk to him very quietly, though. Sometimes I even whisper. I discovered a couple of days ago that he whispers as well! When I talk to him quietly, he answers quietly! Now if I could only teach him to iron…
